1980 - 1988
_In 1980 Hoff played with Camilla Wicks and San Francisco Chamber Orchestra  in California. Thereafter he celebrated his 25 anniversary professionally with concerts in radio, television and concert halls. His popularity as a musician and his rather continental, spontaneous way of being has made him a wanted interview object for the press. One could always expect fresh and controversial comments from Brynjar Hoff.

In 1981 Hoff recorded 4 Norwegian oboe concertos with London Philharmonic under the baton of Per Dreier. Same year he was chosen "Musician of the Year" by the Norwegian Composers Association for his achievement for contemporary music.

The meeting with music life in England inspired him to his first recital at Wigmore Hall in 1982. Autumn, same year, he gave his second recital in Wigmore Hall again with excellent reviews.

In 1984, Brynjar Hoff was awarded the Gammleng-prisen,  a Norwegian culture award created by The Fund for Performing Artists in 1982, 25 years after the fund was established in 1957.  The award is named after Rolf Gammleng, who was leading the Norwegian Musicians' Union when the fund was created

His numerous recitals/concerts encouraged Hoff to start a freelance-career. After 20 years in Oslo Phil he gave up his position. In the following years and up to these days he has been a full time soloist in the total music spectre he represents: Solo concerts with orchestras, film music, theatre engagements, recordings. He has toured Spain, England, Russia and USA. The New York debut in Carnegie Recital Hall (now Weill Hall) spring 1986 was the realisation of his childhood dream.
